I recently ran a very successful British Values Day. I began the day by inviting parents/carers/governors in and delivered the attached assembly presentation to them as well as to pupils. I then gave each class a value of their own (see guidance). Classes were able to be as creative as they liked but were asked to give me one outstanding piece of display work so I could create a British Values display at the entrance of the school (see photo of display). Pupils dressed-up in their cultural clothes or wore red/blue/white and all brought in a 'gold coin donation' to give to charity. The assembly goes through each of the British Values and their meanings. There is a song and video clip attached as well as a short quiz at the end. Promoting British Values is extremely important, Ofsted say: 'Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and, within this, the promotion of fundamental British values, are at the heart of the school’s work.' This presentation on the EU referendum to be held on Thursday 23rd June 2016 can be used for an assembly or as a lesson. Included is an 18 slide presentation, which covers: -What the EU is. -What a referendum is. -For leaving the EU arguments. -Against leaving the EU arguments. -Activity ideas to take the presentation further. -A quiz and answers. With this resource, there is special writing paper that children could use for writing a debate or a for/against letter. There are also voting slips attached so that you can hold a class or whole-school vote. I have aimed the resource at Y3-Y7 but the presentation can easily be adapted to suit younger or older years. I have previously found introducing politics to younger years, has worked well and created curiosity around the subject, especially if the pupils get to vote themselves. A fun Christmas pack for the end of the Autumn term. The pack included exciting English and Maths activities. Guided your pupils through the activities or give them the booklet to work through independently while you take displays down or finish last minute jobs! Any questions, just ask!

Fantastic and fun 28 slide/12 question quiz. The quiz is multiple choice and covers a range of topics including: politics, sport and celebrities. Children answer 12 questions, choosing a, b or c. They then swap papers with a partner and then the answers are relived on the Powerpoint, There is also a Roman Numeral tie breaker! Great for Christmas fun and assemblies. Terrorism needs to be addressed from an early age so pupils understand why it is wrong and how it can ruin lives. This is a gentle introduction into thinking about the evil of terror. Have a break in the last week before the Easter holidays. Whether you need to take a display down, mark those last few books or finish Sam's assessment, this is a perfect little pack to keep pupils busy with fun and engaging activities. The pack includes: a word search, an opportunity to write an invitation, design an Easter card, design eggs and colour.

This is a fabulous resource that can be used for so many different engaging lessons. This is Theresa May's full speech on calling a general election on 8th June. The speech is fascinating. Ask your pupils to work out which key words are repeated the most, how Theresa May refers to herself and the opposing parties or work out why an election is being called. It could also be used to pick apart May's use of grammar and vocabulary.

An interesting and extremely informative newspaper article, which concentrates on Trump's views on immigration, accompanied by 12 comprehension questions.

An interesting and engaging poem on the fear and devastation caused by persecution. The 1,2,1,2 rhyming poem gives pupils an insight to the hurt and lonlinessthat a refugee might feell. The poem comes with writing paper for pupils to write their own poem about a refugee and poetry comprehension questions.
